HOW CAN YOU HELP SURVIVORS DURING COVID-19?

The Survivor Fund has set a goal to raise $10,000 that will go directly to our survivors, who have been hit especially hard by COVID-19 and do not qualify for government assistance.  If we reach our goal, we will be able to provide over 200 individual grants of $50 to survivors and their families.

THE UNIQUE CHALLENGES FACED BY SURVIVORS DURING COVID-19

WORK: Most of our clients are on the front lines of this crisis, providing care to the elderly or babies, driving Ubers, cooking and delivering our food, deep cleaning homes, and hospitals.  Many of our clients work unofficially or as hourly workers, low-wage workers, contractors, and other vocations that have been hit particularly hard by COVID-19.  This includes taxpayers with mixed-status families who have already filed and paid their taxes and will not be eligible for cash assistance.  Many do not qualify for paid sick leave, are not able to work from home, or do not have access to childcare.

SHELTER: The large number of patients who live in shelters or are street homeless are particularly vulnerable during this time.  Clients were already concerned about how to pay next month's rent before losing their jobs or losing hours to COVID-19.

FOOD: Due to layoffs, quarantines, and other issues arriving from COVID-19, many of our clients do not have access to adequate amounts of food for their families.

WHAT GIFT CARDS WILL PROVIDE

ESSENTIALS: Food, medicine, diapers, and other day-to-day necessities.

COMMUNITY: Our clients are often far away from family and friends, and other common sources of communal support.  Receiving a gift card will make them feel less isolated, and that they are not forgotten.

PSOT is committed to continuing its care for all of its clients during this time.  In addition to the regular services offered, we are reaching out to each one of our clients to make sure they are safe, healthy, and informed.  Our providers and staff are all on call to assist clients in whatever way we can.  We thank you all for your support.

The Survivor Fund is a 501(c)(3) established to provide critical client assistance funding and services to the Bellevue Program for Survivors of Torture (PSOT) through individual gifts and fundraising activities.
