Our approach to working with survivors of torture regards them as having resources and assets which have enabled them to survive their victimization. We recognize the necessity of a culturally sensitive approach which utilizes the client's own cultural and religious practices and resources for healing from the effects of severe human rights abuses. We focus on symptom reduction and helping survivors rebuild their lives by assisting with social adjustment and connecting clients to supports within the community.
Specialized medical services available through our program and Bellevue Hospital enable us to provide outstanding and expansive care for torture survivors, tailored to each individual's need.
PSOT provides a variety of expert psychological services, designed to stabilize and support clients in their first steps toward finding community and processing traumatic events.
PSOT's social services coordinator meets with clients to assess basic needs and support them in accessing necessary public benefits and private services.
Our legal services manager assists clients in coordinating all aspects of the immigration process, and continues to legally support clients who have obtained asylum status.
