Election Statement

November 18, 2016

New York, NY-The Program for Survivors of Torture issued the following statement in regards to the recent election:

We are the Program for Survivors of Torture and for the last 21 years our program has provided comprehensive and interdisciplinary medical, mental health, social and legal services to survivors of torture and other human rights abuses. We work with some of the strongest yet most vulnerable people that come to this country seeking refuge. These are people who survived the worst that the world could throw at them and still strive to create a limitless future. It is our duty as a program, and as a nation, to support our refugees and welcome our new Americans, because they have been and will continue to be the future of this country. It is the mission of our program to help them to rebuild their lives in the United States and advocate for their rights with the new administration. We hope you will join us by contributing your time, talent and/or financial resources to support us in our efforts.

To our dear refugee and undocumented communities, we know that the recent election results may have sparked fear or past traumas for you, due to the upsetting rhetoric of the last couple of months. We assure you that we will not leave your side. We are here as a resource for you, to help you through this time and those to come. Our program will advocate for you just as hard, if not more, to get you the assistance that you need. There will be many changes to come, but we will work together to navigate them. Do not lose hope, the future is still bright.

 Sincerely,

The Program for Survivors of Torture
