PSOT 6th Annual Winter Concert

On Friday, February 23rd people of all ages came out to celebrate the Program fro Survivors of Torture. Casa Mantequilla, Clinical Director Dr. Hawthorne Smith's band, performed their blues-infused world music. About 90 supporters and clients came out on a rainy day to let loose and dance to the music. Pasang Dolma sang beautiful traditional Tibetan songs for the crowd and Actress, Singer and PSOT Bookkeeper Laura McLean performed a song with the band. PSOT 2017 Annual Benefit

On November 1, 2017, the Program for Survivors of Torture held its 22nd Annual Benefit Dinner. The room came alive with the words of Kerry Kennedy, Herman Raspe, Adama Bah, and Naila Al-Atrash. 


Ms. Kennedy, President of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, spoke about human rights and the necessity to defend them in these turbulent times. 

 

                                                       Herman Raspe, Attorney at Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler LLP,                                        expressed the importance of Pro Bono work and his experience representing PSOT clients through Patterson Belknap. The law firm received the Steve Kolleeny Pro Bono Service award for their excellence in Pro Bono work. 


Adama Bah, activist and advocate against religious discrimination,

compared the Islamophobic policies that were put in place post

9/11 and the ones being developed now. She encouraged the

audience to advocate for those that are being discriminated

against and to show their community that they are not alone.

                                                                          Ms. Bah received the Bellevue Cornerstone Award for                                                                                her activism and courage. 

 Naila Al-Atrash, actress and activist, performed a scene from the play, “Forbidden Science Monologues,” about a refugee’s experience being far from home. She spoke to the difficulties of being far from loved ones, but the endless opportunities that she has found here in the US. Ms. Al-Atrash received the Phoenix Award for her ability to flourish even while faced with trauma.

PSOT Pride March

On June 25th PSOT participated in the NYC Pride March to show solidarity to our LGBTQ clients.
