B. Shaw Drake

Case Management Coordinator

Shaw Drake is the Case Management Coordinator at the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture.  He is responsible for coordinating across disciplines to ensure clients have access to the interdisciplinary services provided by the Program. He also conducts 6 Month follow-up assessments and assists clients with an array of social services, including Medicaid, employment, housing, food, clothing and legal assistance.     


Mr. Drake is a recent summa cum laude graduate of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, double majoring in Latin American Studies and Spanish.  He comes to the Program after working with the Humanitarian Aid organization No More Deaths on the U.S.-Mexico Border.  In 2010 he received Highest Honors for his Senior Honors Thesis entitled “Deterrence and Criminalization of Migrants along the Sonora-Arizona Border”.  He was also the 2009 recipient of the Julia Crane Award for excellence in honors thesis research and the 2010 recipient of the Americas Leadership Award from the Institute for the Study of the Americas.  Other past experiences include educational, aid and community building projects in Mexico and Cuba.  He is fluent in Spanish.  He intends to pursue a Masters degree in Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid and continue to build his career in the field.
